ACT 3
Floral Burial
Dream of the Red Chamber is one of the most important works of classical Chinese literature. It
portrays a group of talented women whose lives are marked by hardship and tragedy. One of the
central characters is Lin Daiyu.
In the novel, there is a famous scene known as “Daiyu Burying Flowers.” One day, Lin Daiyu sees
fallen flowers scattered on the ground. Worried that they will be trampled and spoiled, she gently
gathers them and buries them in the soil. To her, the flowers are more than part of nature—they
symbolize the fate of women: beautiful and delicate, yet unable to control their own destiny.
This work is inspired by the scene of "burying flowers." Here, flowers symbolize both nature and
women.
